I’m a Gen X mom.

I survived dial-up internet, shoulder pads, and handwriting letters with actual pens. So imagine my confusion when I heard my teen dramatically sigh, “Ugh… this is so 6.”
Before I could even ask what they meant, someone else chimed in: “Nah, she’s giving 7 vibes now.”

What?

I looked around for a calculator.
Turns out… we’re not talking arithmetic. We’re talking emotional ratings.

6 = ehhh, not so great, slightly annoying vibes
7 = ok ok, we’re getting somewhere, kinda vibey
Apparently, my child has reduced an entire emotional spectrum into digits. Gone are the days of “I’m fine” — now it’s all numbers, drama, and emoji-laden nuance.

And honestly?
I kind of love it.
